St. Louis – September 19th, 2023 – Gershman Mortgage, a leader in the mortgage industry, knows that being a first time home buyer can seem overwhelming and stressful at times. There are several important things to keep in mind that often are not communicated to the buyer during the mortgage process, which can cause hiccups along the way. However, Andy Schoemehl and his team are here to walk you through every step of the home buying journey, answer any questions you might have, and give you valuable insight as to how the mortgage process can be as seamless as possible.
Here is a list of helpful tips that we recommend borrowers follow throughout the home buying journey to ensure that the process runs smoothly:
- Make your mortgage payment on time
- Stay current on your accounts
- Keep working at your current employer
- Notify us of changes in employment
- Continue to use credit as normal
- Keep all paystubs, bank statements and other documents organized
- Tell your loan officer about any gift funds at closing
On the flip side, here is a list of things you should try your best NOT to do when buying your first home:
- Don’t change your employers or quit your job
- Don’t apply for loans or make big purchases
- Don’t deposit large sums of money without notifying your loan officer
- Don’t open or close any asset accounts
- Don’t pay off credit cards without talking to your loan officer first
- Don’t close any credit cards
- Don’t pull your credit report
There are several things you can do to get ready for the home buying season, so it may be a good idea to sit down with a knowledgeable loan officer before you’re ready to buy. This way we can help you make the best decision for you and your family. Especially when it comes to down payments, determining a price range that fits your budget and approximately how much you’ll need. The more prepared we are the smoother the whole process will go.
