A Leap of Faith

Merry Anne’s entry into the industry was a profound shift in direction. When asked what inspired her to start her real estate career, she describes it as a spiritual calling. "I had been a preschool and 1st grade teacher for 5 years but felt God calling me to step out on faith and follow him into whatever he had planned," she explains. She became an agent in 2006—just as the market began to crash—and spent years trusting in a higher plan. "I'm so glad I did because God has blessed me immensely!".

Trials and Triumphs

Starting a career during one of the most significant housing declines in history was a formative challenge. Reflecting on her early career and the moments that ignited her commitment, Merry Anne recalls the difficulty of learning in a struggling market. "Everyone that 'trained' me only knew the good times... they had no idea how to be successful in a challenging market," she says. Rather than giving up, she leaned into the adversity. "I literally turned over every stone that was in the way of my success".

The Blueprint for Success

Merry Anne believes that lasting success is built on grit and moral clarity. Regarding the best real estate advice she has encountered, she emphasizes the necessity of hard work. "You have to be willing to put the work in," she asserts. "You have to want that listing, that buyer, that deal more than the next guy... I promise that if you put the work in and always choose the moral high ground—you will be successful!".

For agents struggling to establish themselves, her advice is equally direct: "Give it all that you have! Set reasonable expectations. Hold yourself accountable". Regardless of market conditions, her fundamental habit for success is simple: she doesn't quit. When the market slows, she shifts her focus to the "back-end things like training, marketing, preparation," and reconnecting with her sphere.

"In the past 3 years we have donated almost $14,000 to local schools and charities... where we donate $100 from each closing in our client's name," she shares. From adopting a street for clean-up to starting a scholarship for area foster kids, giving back is at the core of her office.

When she isn't working, Merry Anne and her family are fully immersed in the natural beauty of Central Missouri. "Our family takes full advantage of the many different lakes to boat and kayak on," she says. "We love the hiking trails and State Parks... and floating down the Niangua River in the summertime is an absolute blast!".

Looking Ahead

Merry Anne is excited about the future of real estate, noting that the market is starting to balance out as mortgage rates ease. She is also eager to see how technology continues to evolve. "The introduction of tech in our industry is exciting! I can't wait to see what new things we'll have at our fingertips for our clients!".
